This week (July 22-31) the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Queensland (CCIQ) is hosting a state-wide celebration of Queensland’s small businesses, starting with the 11th Annual NAB National Small Business Summit at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Subsequent events will include specialty forums, workshops, mentoring sessions, and networking activities. There will also be daily, free webinars offered courtesy of CCIQ and its partners, with topics like:

  • “Business Continuity Planning” – How would your business survive a disaster? Minimise the risks with these tips. (25 July)
  • “Facebook Marketing for Your Business—It’s more than just Likes!” – How can you really work Facebook to market your business? (25 July)
  • “Attracting New Customers to Your Business” – Need more business? Find out how to become a magnet! (26 July)
  • “Maximising your Website Potential” – Free tips to optimise your website! (27 July)
  • “Managing your Online Reputation” – Learn how to get the conversation going online with your business as the subject.
  • “Introduction to Social Media” – Learn the basics and put good foundations in place.

Stephen Tait, CEO and spokesperson for the Small Business Week campaign, is urging Queensland business to take full advantage of these opportunities. According to the official statement on the CCIQ website, Tait “applaud[s] the State Government’s move to boost the profile of small business and promote its role in the Queensland economy, and urge[s] small businesses to jump on board.”

Says Tait, “Small business really provides the backbone of many local economies across the state…”

This is why Saturday, 27 July, Queenslanders have the chance to show their support for local businesses by joining the Buy Locally Saturday movement. “If each employed Queenslander spent an additional $10 per week in local businesses, we would have an extra $23.5 million circulating in our economy each week, which equates to more than $1.2 billion each year,” Tait claims.

“The more we support our local businesses, the more opportunity they have to grow, which can only mean greater job opportunities in our communities.”

So go out and show some love to your local small businesses this Saturday, and if you’re part of a small business yourself, get involved this week! You can register your business or business event for free on the CCIQ website via their partner, NetEngine, who has constructed an interactive map that will showcase your business details to audiences in your region! Free advertising, in other words.
